A little over a week ago, I was having a rough time and decided to get myself a nintendo switch. And I am loving it.

I will be the first one to admit that I spend money on things I shouldn’t when I am having a bad day or anytime between midnight and 4am. But this time, it wasn’t it wasn’t because of that. And it was not a black friday purchase.
I know this sounds weird, but I am not a big fan of Black Friday. I don’t see the point of people buying things just because its on sale. If you need it or was planning to buy it, thats fine. But if not, all that happens is personal debt increases and consumerism is promoted. Every time I see that something is on sale, I think of this quote:
If something cost $1000, and it is on sale for $750, and then you decide to buy it, you did not save $250. You spent $750.
It has been something I have wanted for a while now, probably about 2 years. But I never got it. I wasn’t going to ask my family to buy it for me because I know they wouldn’t. I was going to get it when I finally got a job and didn’t feel guilty about spending the money, but that doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon. And with the holidays coming up, not being with my family, is getting to me. I am miserable. So I decided to get it.
Is that a financially responsible decision? No
Do I care? No
Do I regret it? Not right now.
Some part of me thought my mother was going to be pissed off and think I was irresponsible, but we’re both pretending it doesn’t exist. And I am fine with that.
I put $50 aside every month. On top of that I had money set aside to travel. So I used it. I mean who knows when I will be able to travel. Plus, I am fine with every thing else I have. I do not feel the need to get the latest phone or ipad or macbook, when mine is completely fine. The only other thing want to get is a dyson super sonic blowdryer which will cost me the same. And seeing that I have no reason to be dressed up lately, I can go without it.
I did not wait till Black Friday because I know these consoles don’t go on sale. Instead, there are bundles to entice consumers to get it. Yes it would have been nice to have a free game, but it wasn’t the one I wanted and I have no problem buying it if and when I need it. If I was at my grandparents, I would be more interested because I have people to play with. But its just me. I also need to add that I did not want to wait and then it have it sold out . With possible lockdown (which we ended up having) and the holidays, I didnt want to take a chance.
I ended up getting the Nintendo Switch: Animal Crossing New Horizons Edition from BestBuy. Initially, I wanted the Grey JoyCon because I love the look of black electronics, but it seemed to have been sold out everywhere and even though its now in stock, I am not going to return it. I am very happy with the one I have and it doesn’t bother me.I try not to be one of those people always returning things. Because I take care of my things, I also got a case and screen protector. In terms of games I got animal crossing new horizon because why not and house flipper. Maybe later on I can buy another one but I am not in any rush because I feel broke. Without HouseFlipper thats already $600 cad but it did.

I will say that I had a very good experience ordering from BestBuy. I ordered it around 10pm on Tuesday night and got it around 4pm on Wednesday. And I did not ask for it to be shipped so quickly.
Whats funny is that I preferred the switch rather than the switch lite because you could connect it to your television, and I still have not set it up to my tv yet. Here I thought I would finally have an excuse to use my television since I rarely touch it. But I guess that still is not happening.
After speaking to Hilary and someone else, I knew that getting a nintendo switch was a good decision. I do not regret it and probably use it a bit too much. At least now I won’t be miserable with the holidays and my mind is distracted. That is all I can ask for.
