My 23rd Birthday

So yesterday was my birthday and I am now 23 years old. I haven’t felt any difference in turning a year older, but I have a feeling it will come in time.

Fun fact, I am not a big birthday person. I have always kept it simple and spent it with family and friends. And I have always dressed up and had a cake, because who doesn’t like cake. Obviously with this pandemic, I couldn’t go back to the Caribbean where I normal would spend it and I couldn’t even go out to do something. So my expectations were low. But I ended up really enjoying my day.

I have always had custom cakes ever since I was little, so obviously I was going to get one done. We got my cake made from a Italian bakery here in Mississauga. And it was beautiful and definitely tasty. It was a chocolate sponge with two types of creams – raspberry and another one I don’t remember. You will see that the cake is a bit messed up and that was completely our fault trying to bring it home.

And since I loved pastel pink and glitter lately, thats how I dressed up too. This is how I ended up in a very silvery pink and glitter dress that I got from Nordrom. And my dumbass decided it would be a good idea to put glitter on me and in my hair. That was a mistake because there was glitter everywhere. I was not at a music festival, so I think I need to reconsider some of my ideas. You’d think glitter would be easy to come off, but nope. Its still there in my hair and on me.

Since I felt pretty and all dressed up obviously it was fitting to take a few photos so I did. I am so awkward when it comes to photos that I do not know how to act and have to take soo many. And knowing there might be people around who might see you, I get weird.

PS. this was one of the first times that I had my hair curly for my birthday in soo many years that I don’t know how long. Probably 10 years.

My grandmother and her friend came over, and I really appreciated them doing so. I know that initially I didn’t want them there, but it was nice to talk and laugh like before. Since my grandmother was coming over, I asked her if she could get me a case of soda and she was extra bringing me 3 cases. Like thats so nice of her – a 24 pack of coke, 24 pack of pepsi and 24-pack of ginger ale.

Later that evening, I decided to go collect some money that my godmother who lives in England had sent me. So my mom and I figured we would just do that and come back home. Oh was I wrong. After collecting that money, ended up at the bank because I wanted to deposit it because I do not use cash. I cannot be the only one who just tap tap tap everywhere. Since there was a burrito place next to it, got some. And then instead of going home my mom and I decided to rush to the LCBO/ liquor store before it closed at 9pm. And having uncomfy shoes did not help. After that ended up at Starbucks because I wanted to use my birthday reward and then went home.

Later that night tried to shower off as much glitter as I can and changed into pyjamas to watch Guardians of the Galaxy with my friend.

I enjoyed my birthday. It didn’t have to be over the top. I love keeping things simple and just being spontaneous. And I needed today, Sunday, to recharge because I was exhausted.

In terms of presents, my mom paid for the cake, my grandmother and godmother gave me money to spend on whatever I wanted, and I bought a few new dressed and pyjamas for myself earlier this month. I think I am finally going to give in and become basic and get a pair of airpods with the money I got as a gift. I know that I really wanted to get the dyson supersonic blowdryer that I talked about here but I will save that for later when I actually can afford it without feeling guilty.

    1. Thank you for the birthday wishes. I’ve learned that life is what you make out of it, and I tried to have a positive attitude. And yes it was yummy. they did a good job.

  2. Happy belated birthday!! That cake looks delicious and great choice of dress! Looks good on you!👍 I too celebrate my birthdays in a very simplistic way. Last year, when I turned 30, my husband wanted to do a nice celebration for me but all I wanted was a nice take out dinner and cookies n’ creme cake. That’s it! And I loved it. 😆

    1. Thank you. Yes the cake was delicious, and if ever I need a cake I am going back to that bakery. I can’t even judge for just wanting dinner and cake because its simple and leaves stress, disappointment and expectations.

      1. I agree! I think that’s mainly why I like simple birthdays. It’s my day so I’d love for it to be free from all those things you just mentioned.
