Tired of Spending Money – A Rant

This is going to be a rant because like the title says, I am tired of spending money.

My birthday is exactly a month from today – July 25th. And honestly I am not looking forward to it. Usually I’m spending it with my puppy and family in the Caribbean. But borders are closed and we are in pandemic, so I am stuck in Canada. And I am really trying to not to be sad.

I figured, since I can’t travel, why not get something that I have wanted. And there are only two things on that list: a nintendo switch and a Dyson Supersonic Blowdryer. PS. they both cost $500. When it comes to big purchases, I like to save some money to eventually get it. And because I wanted the blow dryer, thats what I did.

While renewing my permanent resident (PR) status, I realize that I could apply for Canadian citizenship. Got excited about that for a while till I realized the cost. Its $630. You have got to be fucking kidding me. I understand why its so expensive. I’m just tired of spending money. And finally saved up for a big purchase that I want, and now I can’t get it because I have to use the money on something else.

In the past few months I’ve spent money on:

• my diploma frame $200
• graduation photos $700
• sending a barrel for my grandparents over $1500

And now this.

Obviously applying for citizenship is important to me, but I wanted to treat myself. I’m having a shitty year and birthday already and I don’t want to spend the money that I just set aside for myself on something else. I know I could apply a bit later when I save some money again, but my mom will be pissed if I do. She thinks I should do it.

And for people who are thinking thats a lot of money for a blowdryer. I agree with you, but its beautiful and my favourite color. But you can’t judge me if you have straight hair compared to the nest on my head that I’m very self conscious of. I am a curly-haired girl with hair that does not dry, even when I diffuse it.

I know I sound like a brat right now. But this year has been shitty, everything I have looked forward to has been cancelled, and I am on my period right now.
